Lee Fribrand
Sir Lee Fribrand (mka Bill Lee) passed from this life, April 11, 2005
From Duke John the Bearkiller:
Sir Lee represented everything that was good about what we try to do
in the SCA.
He was kind, helpful, generous, and shared his knowledge and talent
with anyone.
A Song of Sable Spear
Hwaet!
Western waypost // watched, unwaver’ng
Gate-ward gazing // grim, yet gentle
Stands the sentinel // solemn death-foe
Long his word-fame // Fribrand Darkspear
Friend of John // the dread Bear-Slayer
Stands he ‘fore // the horned crescent
Cup of silver // emptied earthward
Bound about //with chains of golden
Tight the golden // cord of binding
Strong the anvil // angled inward
Darkling small-foe // seeks the great-heart
Now Lee Fribrand // stands to battle
Darkened daggers // thrust through entrails
Lee the warrior // rages wrothly
Stern of visage // dread King’s Champion
Brings to bear // his burning spearpoint
Now before the gates // of glory stands he
Pounds upon the // iron-shod portals
Forces full the // doors of ‘Salem
First to enter, // Cross triumphant
War-work finished // Ram Combattant
Stands at rest // resolved to fate
Death-denial // done at day’s-end
Final battle // bought with life-price
Western waypost // watched, unwaver’ng
Gate-ward gazing // grim, yet gentle
Stands the sentinel // solemn death-foe
Long his word-fame // Fribrand Darkspear

He cared about the ideals of fighting and combat, NOT about winning
(it didn't stop him from whipping all our butts though).
I think about what some of our fighters say now about knights that
may not be the greatest examples of Chivalry.
I can only say this...Lee Frebrand was a Knight, in every good
definition of the word.
If there was one reason to have the Order of the Chivalry in the
SCA, Lee was that reason.
He loved his wife and son and he made EVERYONE around him better.
We will never see his like again but I was blessed and honored to
know him.
I hope to see him again someday.
